What is your favorite type of art to create?

Portraits. Portraits have always been a part of my artistic journey - Not always well done, might I add. It's been really cool watching my skills improve over time - Improving the techniques and skills needed to use graphite, charcoal or ink and bring somebody's beauty and personality to paper or canvas. It's a blessing to have the skills to create memorials of loved ones, or help people see beauty in themselves. I find so much joy in being able to show someone how beautiful they truly are.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration within myself - In my own life experiences with mental health disorders. I have a passion for advocacy and normalizing mental health struggles - And I discovered my art is an excellent way to support individuals who may not even realize that they need the support. The process of discussing the mind behind the portrait is a great way to normalize the discussion of mental health without putting pressure on the individual and the final result is catharsis and self love.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would invest in myself - Up until now, I have only been able to do these portraits from reference photos and conversations over the phone or online - I would love to create a safe space where people could come in and chat while having their portraits done. I just graduated from a mental health and addictions program, with credentials that allow me to provide mental health support - To create a safe space to provide support without feeling like therapy would be so helpful for so many people.
