Julie Northover

I like to create things that are representative of the natural beauty of our world. Whether it be sunsets, people, or a butterfly.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

I love photography, painting, and mosaics. I love driving around and finding random things to photograph. My favorites are old buildings especially with fire escapes, sunsets, people who are in a tough situation. I have a photo a a Vietnam veteran sleeping on the ground in LA next to his wheelchair. That really got to me. I have a photo of old mailboxes on a dirt road.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration in the amazing things that a lot of people take for granted. A butterfly with a broken wing. A huge grasshopper pooping on the wall in my garden. A baby praying mantis compared to a grown one. And people that stay strong and humble no matter their circumstances. My one wish in life is to be able to help others and make everyone see that we are all the same. Despite your race, religion, income... We are all one human race and it feels good to help one another.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would definitely give my mom half of it for being there for me throughout the years. It's hard being an artist's mom. The stability it sometimes not there. I would get new tires for my son's car. And hopefully be able to start a non profit for survivors of suicide. Like helping them when a loved one passes by helping with funeral costs etc. I've known 5 people close to me that have passed that way and it's so sudden. I also love helping homeless and seniors in nursing homes to see them smile.
