I make art to express my inner self, process life’s depths, and reach a part of existence only creation allows, living through making.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of art to create is character driven storytelling. I’ve always had my head in the clouds, always carrying stories with me. When my siblings were little, I would make up stories for them and draw them out, giving them somewhere to live. They’re older now, and they don’t need those stories the same way anymore. But I still do. I think I always will. That part of me never really grew out of it. My stories will always be there, they just need somewhere to be seen.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in the stories that never really leave me. They come from my imagination, but also from what I’m feeling and experiencing, both the good and the difficult. I’m always observing people and the world around me, trying to understand it. I ask “why” about everything, about others, my surroundings, and who I am. That need to understand follows me everywhere and seeps into my art, where my questions take shape and, if not answers, become something closer to understanding.
What would you do with $25,000?If I were to receive this, I would put it toward my education and my path as an artist. I’m balancing work and school while supporting myself, doing everything I can to keep moving forward. This would give me the space to focus, to create, and to grow into who I’m becoming. Without it, I’ll still keep going, just with more weight to carry. Either way, I’m not stopping. This would simply give me the chance to breathe while I do it.
