Portraits and floral paintings. I enjoy painting loved ones and focusing on even their smallest details. I’ve always been drawn to florals. You must be present to experience their beauty. I feel that portraits and floral paintings have that in common, experiencing the now. I’ve also used Latin seasonings in my work for pigment as a homage to my culture -bustelo coffee, sazon, cilantro.
Where do you find inspiration?I am inspired by beauty and the realization of being present to live in the experience. Death is another inspiration, as it is the only thing guaranteed in all of our lives. Painting the elderly, portraits of grandparents or an older loved one, brings me humility & peacefulness. It’s also a reminder that I one day will grow older. In my yard, we have flowers and I love observing them. Their natural vibrant colors, shapes, & their movement, all unique, not one the same. It reminds me of O’Keeffe
What would you do with $25,000?I recently gave in my resignation at my current job to pursue my art teaching career. The money would go towards my education & preparation towards my new career & personal studio space. I currently work pt at a gallery in my childhood town (Perth Amboy Gallery Center for the Arts) & would love to contribute to its expansion.
