My favorite medium is digital art, specifically drawing on a computer using only a mouse. I expand this into animation and stop motion to give a voice to my portraits. A core project is The BROWN Family series. I use symbols like the butterfly to represent awakening and awareness. I also practice "démounaj," deconstructing portraits to highlight social issues like the chlordécone crisis or water problems.
Where do you find inspiration?Inspiration comes from my immediate environment and local reality. I am moved by social injustices and the human condition. My Caribbean roots and African identity also drive my work. I am influenced by Hebru Brantley’s Afro-futurism and Med Hondo’s social denunciation. I also draw from photographer Stephen Shames and the performance art of Christian Jalma to question the role of the artist.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use these funds to organize my first solo exhibition and publish my exhibition catalog. I would like it to be a traveling exhibition because it would address a subject that is important to me. I would also train in the basics of event coordination. I enjoy sharing my work and allowing the public to experience my creative process, so I would offer workshops aimed at audiences who are not typically involved in the art world.
