My traditional pieces are mostly done with oil pastel, acrylic paint, and Prismacolor pencils, but my passion is creative reuse: taking cast-off materials and turning them into art. Even my paintings are all done on repurposed substrate - mostly particle board that was originally used to ship sequined fabric.
Where do you find inspiration?Since my passion is creative reuse, much of my inspiration comes from the materials I can obtain. I’ve found that relying as heavily as possible on what I already have gives me a structure that would otherwise be lacking. In terms of subject matter, most of my work is inspired by science fiction, actual science, political angst, various subcultures, and cats I find on the Internet.
What would you do with $25,000?Thinking practically? Maintenance on the house. Thinking artistically? Still working on the house, but making it WEIRD. With a $25k grant I might finally talk my husband into letting me turn the guest bedroom into a ball pit.
