I make art to remind people of what they are, to explore the meaning of being human, and to deepen my own connection with the divine.

Painting and drawing the portrait and figure has always been my favorite. I think of a portrait as a mirror for the viewer. When someone sees a painting of a person they don’t know, they often ask, “Who is that?” And the answer is, “You.” Even in all our beautiful variations, we are more alike than we are different. A portrait of one of us can reflect something back to all of us.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in living. To me, being an artist is more of a way of life than a profession. Sometimes images appear fully formed in my mind’s eye, as if rising from the subconscious. Other times, I work more intuitively, developing a painting through process - finding a pose that inspires me, working with a model, and responding to the energy in the room.
What would you do with $25,000?With $25,000, I would invest in building the creativity class I’ve long wanted to offer, pursue an artist residency, and create more space for my work to grow. I would also love to use part of it to help start a new fine art market or festival for emerging artists in Nashville.
