For over 45 years I taught students to create and love of art. Now, I get to create and love the process from the creators viewpoint.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
The closest definition of the type of art I create is abstract surrealism. As I paint I notice vague images that evolve. I’ll turn the panel on my easel and find more incomplete animals, plants and sometimes monsters. I try to create images that read differently from different distances, and use paint in ways that changes a bit in different lights. My painting world is without gravity. So any of the four edges of the panel can be the ’top’. Each orientation reveals subtle changes of meaning.
Where do you find inspiration? The paint itself pulls me in. I love the way the engineered qualities of good oil paints blend, flow, and glaze the surface. Then I see bits of bits of technique from other artists, or images that I admire. My husband’s job has constantly exposed me to comic books. That exposure mostly gives me a sense of sequence and panels.
What would you do with $25,000?I would finish training my hearing dog, then visit 2 artist/friends I greatly admire. And of course buy more paint!
