Why I love to create art is to share the beauty of my heritage and the traditional Diné way of life.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of art to create is representative of my cultural heritage. I like to show traditional Navajos living a simple life. People who have sunbaked skin and wrinkled hands from tending to sheep in the sun, or a young child spending time with their grandparents for example. Art is a way for me to honor the people and lifestyle of the Navajos. My favorite type of art to create is they type where people see the art and it immediately reminds them of home.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration everywhere I look. I think back to my grandparents, with withered faces and the softest handshakes. They were gentle, simple people who lived lives I was inspired to paint. I like to showcase the traditional hogan, sheep herding, making fry bread, and traditional scenes. The Navajo reservation gives me inspiration every day.
What would you do with $25,000?I have researched a long-term plan that would maximize the impact that $25,000 could have on my professional growth: 1. Studio Upgrades – Creating a Professional, Sustainable Space 2. Equipment and Materials – Expanding Creative Possibilities 3. Business and Marketing Development - Encouraging Potential Earnings 4. Growth Opportunities and Travel - Taking Advantage of Art Shows Nationwide 5. Art Business Sustainability - Creating a Long-Term Plan for Success
