I create to survive. I’ve found art as a way to escape constructively and a means to process pain, heartbreak, joy, and love.

My favorite medium is clay. I love how anyone can take a lump of clay and create something that you can hold in your hands. I’m fascinated by the history/story all clay has, from it’s creation (as remnants from the destruction of a volcano) to the metamorphosis it undergoes when exposed to the intense heat- like the phoenix rising from the flames the clay is changed forever, impervious to water. I feel most grounded, and “tuned in” with my hands in clay. All the noise of life disappears.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration all around me, in nature, music, great food, traveling, and the human condition and all its complexities like love, death, heart break and rebirth. Sometimes I’m inspired by simple things, such as a bird singing in a tree, the laughter of a small child, a kind smile from a stranger or the warm embrace from someone you love. I’m constantly amazed by the beauty all around, like clouds floating in the sky or butterflies. My inspiration is endless and never ending. I’m a dreamer.
What would you do with $25,000?I have two daydreams. I just completed my BFA in 2023 at 52 yrs and would love to continue with an MFA. An MFA would allow me teach anywhere in the world that I please and share my love of art with others, especially those communities that are underserved in life. Or, I would open my own art studio so that I could share my love of the arts with everyone. With my own studio I would do outreach programs for underserved communities, specifically at risk youth. Art saves lives. It saved mine.
