I have gone through a lot. I hope to create something that makes someone feel seen. Just as I felt as a young child discovering my passion.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Ive always created out of instinct. From emotion and from energy. I pull it out of the overlooked, the discarded, and the things that people over look. I call it trash art. I think its found this style when I was a child, because I didnt have many resources to create the art I wanted. When I wanted. I learned how to see differently, because of my own obstacles in life. Art saved me.
Where do you find inspiration?Through experience and the way the world moves people. How differently it can shape each of us. My art is born in the moment from whatever happens to be around me: dirt, ash, house paint, putty.. anything becomes a medium if the feeling is strong enough. I love to physically feel what I am creating, just as I feel the inspiration to create it. More than anything, I want someone else to feel it too.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use it to give back to the very thing that shaped me, people.. the world. My work has always been inspired by the rawness of the human experience. With my own struggles with mental health, I have a constant need to connect with the world through art. And there are so many just like me. Id like to find a way to give back by creating a space where like minded people can do that too. A place where people can find peace in creating.
