Art is healing. For me, and for the collector. I paint to make you smile. To communicate what’s hard to say, and to spread love and joy!
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My work is rooted in bold color and loose rules, because tight rules make timid paintings, and timid paintings don't tell the truth. I paint cowgirls and icons, women who take up space, subjects that demand to be seen. The palette is unusual. I'm self-taught, which means I never learned what I wasn't supposed to do. I consider that a gift.
Where do you find inspiration?Growing up in the 1980s meant coming home when the streetlights kicked on, not when a phone buzzed. There was no algorithm deciding what was beautiful, no filter softening the edges of real life. There was just color, and noise, and the feeling of moving through the world without being tracked by it. That freedom is what I'm chasing on every canvas.
What would you do with $25,000?I would totally redo my studio, invest in some better quality paints, and use for entry fees first galleries and contests.
