I create art because I think the people that make up my corner of the world are worthy and deserving of being shown.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I love to create the type of art that people can see themselves in and be reminded of very specific times and places in their lives. To me, this type of art is about finding something that exists inside so many people as a way to connect them and it’s my favorite to make because it reminds me that people are not as different as we pretend they are. I like making things that are nostalgic and seem to ask if you remember and how you could ever forget.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in the moments shared between my family, friends, and community as well as the traditions and stories they all pass down. I am especially inspired by the people closest to me who fight to preserve a way of life they have earned and deserve to live to the fullest. These people and their memories have taught me to work hard and live fiercely which is something I think will never cease to inspire me.
What would you do with $25,000?Honestly, if I had $25,000, I would finish paying my college tuition and probably buy more supplies so that I can keep doing what I love. Maybe I’d even buy a car to take my work and show off my people in places I couldn’t get to before.
