I create art to reframe and recast the social and generational misidentifications that African American women receive in popular culture.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Art that tells a story. The more colorful the better… unless it’s grayscale LOL.
Where do you find inspiration? From my relationships with my family, with a highlight on my daughters. The things that I see them going through, that I also went through, it’s many things that are in some ways the same and in some ways miles apart. How they travel through the world, as one that is not always the kindest to women, the kindest to girls, the kindest to black people, the kindest to biracial people - it is a whole story that has to be lived and reframed over & over again to survive - in beauty, triumph & dignity
What would you do with $25,000?I would take care of my daughters and give them a real head start on the rest of their lives. I would also use it to show them that if they try and if they dream and if they make something real, they can win.
