Art has always been an outlet for me in both the highs and lows of life. I love that I can create a visual to what goes on in my head.

I really enjoy the art of surrealism. I’ve always been into the mind-bending, ethereal, weird, and dark pieces of art. I love photographing everyday places that would normally get passed by as being nothing of significance, and manipulating them into distorted and more exaggerated pieces. I guess I try to match the visual with my emotions. So many people pass by the same scenery every day, but we all see it differently. My art is a peak through the lens of my world, my memories, and my psyche.
Where do you find inspiration?I’m constantly listening to music. I’ll feel a connection with a tune, which then transports me to a memory. I feel the emotions tied to that memory, and try to portray that in my photos. Sometimes it’s the lyrics, sometimes it’s the beat that clicks with me. My mind is like a carousel of thoughts, so when something grabs me, I run with it.
What would you do with $25,000?As someone currently in recovery from drugs and alcohol, I am essentially rebuilding my life from the ground up. This prize would be life-changing: I would purchase a vehicle and place a down payment on a permanent home for myself and my children. Beyond personal stability, I have a vision for the future. I want to establish a sober living house or a non-profit organization specifically structured to support both parents and their children, ensuring families can stay together while healing.
