My favorite type of art to create is figurative oil painting. I work in large and small scale,the size comes from the idea, I focus on the human figure, specifically the Latin American female body. My work explores the tension between the physical and the spiritual, between strength and vulnerability, and between the sacred and instinct. Oil is my primary medium because it allow me to build in layers My compositions begin with the figure placed in symbolic, non-literal situations.
Where do you find inspiration?My inspiration comes directly from my life as an immigrant, a woman, a single mother, and someone who has had to rebuild more than once.I am drawn to resilience: what allows a person to survive, and what comes after. Frameworks like Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs resonate with me the idea that healing happens in layers, and that dignity and belonging must be restored before growth is possible. I see this reflected in recovery processes like AA, where identity is rebuilt from the the ground up after
What would you do with $25,000?$25,000 would give my practice the stability it needs to grow. It would secure my studio space, allow me to work at a larger scale with better materials, and support my continued education. The momentum is already there this funding would give it a real foundation
