I create art with my 3 autistic sons so we can connect and communicate. We want to teach other families to make sensory friendly art, too.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My boys and I love playing with different mediums. We make our own paper out of old school papers and flowers. We can then make the paper into cards and framed originals. We love playing with watercolors and water guns. We also like making big chunky mix mediums on canvas that are sensory friendly. Acrylic, coffee grounds, paper, glitter and resin. I also work with textiles, wood burning and more. I love to explore all the arts.
Where do you find inspiration? My biggest inspiration is creating a future for my boys. We call our work: Circus Golay. It's all about playing and connecting. I started to paint around them for my own mental health. Raising 3 autistic boys is not easy. I would take 5 minute color breaks and just put paint on canvas. I could then return back to my boys and continue our day. I started to layer the paint and add textures like coffee and dirt. Slowly my boys started to play with me. Our art brings us closer.
What would you do with $25,000?I would like to have the space to help other families find the joy in creating. I would like to have a big art studio to allow the families to be free to play without physical restrictions. I can have big tables and lots of art supplies. Plus lots of room to move. I also do a somatic therapy where I bring in art play to help people process grief, addiction, trauma, ptsd... and more. I can help many process their world through art and play. This is an amazing opportunity. Thank you !
