I'm a Disabled artist and I make art that makes people happy! I picked up pens & brushes after losing my career, and it's given me new life.

Laura Thomas, a visual artist from Middlebury Vermont, became devoted to her craft after becoming Disabled with Long COVID. She draws and paints from her bed using non-toxic paints and India inks. She employs techniques inspired by online study, like fluid applications and canvas tilting to form vibrant, layered nature- and animal-inspired imagery. Her signature style bursts with color, featuring ombre mountains and joyful abstractions. Through her art, she seeks to soothe and uplift the world.
Where do you find inspiration? Most of my art draws from the beauty of nature and animals. I spend 22 hours a day in bed, so my view is extremely limited. I expand that view by creating bursts of color on paper and canvas. I love the magic of creating art by mixing ink and paint with water and nudging that fluid around the page carefully. I also love the magic of creating images using tens of thousands of tiny colorful dots. Both applications give the impression of beauty being snatched from thin air.
What would you do with $25,000?(1) Hire a professional photographer to capture my art (2) Upgrade my studio w/ a real drafting table, new inks, paints, brushes, canvases, & a wall separating my bedroom from the nook that's my art studio. I'm disabled & the fumes sometimes render me bedridden. (3) Promote my art through Gallery Connect on Singulart, the online art gallery that represents me (4) Submit to additional contests (5) Promote art on Instagram (6) Upgrade my front-yard art gallery (Laura's Little Honor Art Gallery).
