I like to create figurative oil paintings that often incorporate symbolic elements. Rather than literally translating what I see, I aim to produce emotionally driven work, reconstructed through layered symbolism and imagery. I enjoy painting portraits, working with my hands, and experimenting with new media. Recently, I’ve been exploring printmaking and sculpture to further expand my understanding of my practice.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in my upbringing, pivotal emotional transitions in my life, and my ongoing questions about identity. I’m especially drawn to the idea that identity is not fixed, but constantly evolving, shaped by memory, environment, and personal perspective. My work explores how these shifting perceptions influence the way we see ourselves and others, and how moments of change can redefine who we are.
What would you do with $25,000?With this award, I would put the funds toward my art school tuition, allowing me to pursue more opportunities and expand my studies abroad. Because my work is deeply informed by my upbringing and evolving sense of identity, I’m especially interested in how exposure to new environments might shift the way I interpret my experiences.
