In my most personal work, I have sought to reflect some of the influences of the last century—oscillating between Impressionism and Abstract Expressionism—finely executed with a palette knife, whether in acrylics or oils.
Where do you find inspiration?For me, inspiration is present in many aspects of daily life—though most emphatically in that which personally affects me: my surroundings and my interactions with others. My paintings are replete with dreamlike settings: sunsets, lakeside ports, colonial architecture, doorways, architraves, and capitals—as well as nude female figures observing one another, perhaps waiting to board a horse-drawn carriage, or—to put it more aptly—immersed within their private chambers, whether just after a shower
What would you do with $25,000?Honestly, for a man who has lost everything—on multiple occasions—due to forced exile, I have had to produce my work under the most precarious conditions imaginable for a young, immersive artist. I have never had a studio of my own where that creative synergy could truly emerge; perhaps that would be one of my greatest aspirations—along with continuing to support my children and immediate family.
