Liahona Tiberi

My creation process helps me digest the world around me and heal from past trauma. I create as a projection of my true self. Art is life.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

Anything three dimensional really rocks! Sculpture is my hidden passion, yet I have mobility issues which hinder me from being on a potter’s wheel or in a foundry so I found I LOVE creating altered books! The process is best suited to my personal needs while allowing for immersive experience.

Where do you find inspiration?

Inspiration comes from memories and emotions, and from the world around us as well as the world we have yet to discover-our past, present & future. Without hesitation I photograph the world from odd angles or strange angles. I compare and contrast these photos to my real world relationships (a kind of copy of a copy.) I gather found objects as they become available to further tell my story-they become part of my altered books or photo collages. I invite human interaction with my altered books!

What would you do with $25,000?

I’ll print 10,000+ screenshots I interacted with, edited or drew on, & hire an assistant for help arranging them together as a large mural-collage of my notes, drawings & shared memories! I will start a recycled book project together with other like-minded individuals to share the altered book creative process. I will travel to host this project-eventually stitching together one extra large book by combining elements & pages from contributors (to books made on tour) with found objects from it.
