What is your favorite type of art to create?

I work with mixed media, but my favorite medium is body painting. I use human models as canvases and love creating from scratch. I primarily use recycled materials and collage them through body painting. The pieces here are made with Venezuelan old paper bills as a form of protesting government economic and human rights abuses.

Where do you find inspiration?

My inspiration comes from everyday life—the things and colors I encounter, the forgotten and unused materials I discover, and the emotions that, as a muse, propel me to create fictional characters and bring them to life, even if only for a fleeting moment. I start with a blank canvas and gradually build upon it, taking photos and then using water, cotton pads, and soap to erase the artwork I’ve created. Through this process, I become a taxidermist of the ephemeral.

What would you do with $25,000?

I arrived in this country seeking refuge from a dictatorship where dissenting thoughts were punishable by law. Time seemed to stand still for me. This presents an opportunity to showcase my work to the world. It would be akin to starting anew, completing what I had left unfinished, and that would be a great reward. I brought my children to a land of opportunity where they can dare to dream. If I win any of the prizes, I will use the funds to support my daughter’s education. She is also an artist
