I have been making art since I was a child, my grandma who raised me was also an artist, she encouraged me to use it for self expression.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My most favorite works to create are more on the abstract side, I love to work with color and texture. I enjoy doing collage, whether it’s with paper or shadow boxes I love to put pieces together and create my own puzzles. It is truly difficult for me to choose my favorite medium, I have worked with watercolors, acrylics, oil pastels, pastels, black ink, colored pencils, charcoal, and I also have done some sewing collage work as well as jewelry making and some beading.
Where do you find inspiration?I take inspiration from life, from family, friends, and strangers. I make what I feel most of the time, a strange mix of the most beautiful and most wretched things I see and have seen in my life. I have experienced quite a bit of turmoil so far but I am learning that no matter how you feel about it, everything is an experience and should be documented. I have a lot of personal messages and meaningful objects in my work that have been passed down to me or given to me by my most beloved people.
What would you do with $25,000?My first instincts are to help my family. We haven’t been the most fortunate since Covid hit and since my grandma passed. My mom lost her job and my sister and I have been in and out of jobs these past few years, my dad works so incredibly hard, I feel the first thing I should do is help them. Then I could handle some ongoing medical and dental issues I have had and maybe have some leftover to save to go back to school.
