Watching nature reclaim the industrial world sparked my love for art; through clay I explore the quiet transformation of growth and time.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of art to create is that which shifts and evokes humans’ emotions. In my case my main medium is clay. There is a beauty of playing with dirt and molding it. To me there is a parallel of a human’s life and how nurturing one must be up until its final stages. One must be patient, one must learn to let it go, one must understand the balance of it all.
Where do you find inspiration?Nature inspires me, a long side with my parents and my culture. Realizing that living organisms prevail no matter how small the particle. Give it light, oxygen and water and you’ll see it grow slowly right before your eyes. Even in the broad scheme of things, after human beings seize to exist, what prevails will be organic material. That same organic material reminds me of Mexico and its beautiful terrain. Where both my parents were born, I so fortunate for them to share their culture with me.
What would you do with $25,000?I think at this point in my life, me being 32, I have come to realize that i want to enjoy my life by learning, creating and spending time with my loved ones. I would divide that winning amount by investing in myself and my art, learning from workshops that I have been interested in signing up to but haven’t because of financial hardships and also invest it in my family and friends and give back how much they too have sacrificed for me.
