My inspirations come to me in delightful, unexpected ways - a found object - nests in particular, that become narrative. To capture in oils the way that dawn and dusk illuminates or obscures the landscape is a never-ending quest. Painting portraits for me is not so much about the figure, but greatly admiring the works of Holbein and Van Eyck, I love the challenge of painting the appearance of textures in fabric. My inspirations seem to appear like a gift and I must share the moment.
Where do you find inspiration?I maintain an active awareness of the signs and wonders I will be blessed with everyday, whether poignant, sorrowful, or beautiful. Having lived in the northeast and southeast of the United States, I am now residing in the Inland Pacific Northwest where I lived in my formative years. Heavenly river valleys appear in my sleep as if it were glimpses into the eternal. Fortuitously, I now live a few miles from my endless inspiration.
What would you do with $25,000?Having just published my memoir and story of my journey as an artist - 1959 Lark - I will be taking time to write my second novel and continue painting. I donate paintings, when invited, to charitable organizations and benefits, also.
