I create art to express and process the beautiful and difficult parts of my life and I often produce artwork as gifts for friends and family
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of art incorporates culture, identity, spirituality and symbolism. I prefer mixed media and often paint, draw, and add elements of collage in many of my pieces.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration from my own culture, nature, history, genealogy, and spirituality. I see every human being as an individual and have a high level of spiritual discernment that I incorporate into pieces that I create about significant people, places, and events in my life.
What would you do with $25,000?I would look into opening a gallery in my hometown, Baytown, TX, on Texas Avenue. I have a building already in mind. My family are indigenous people who were here before there were buildings and founded Rooster’s, a prominent restaurant, on the same street. I have taught Art and Art History in the Houston area for 13 years and have been in education for 20, and I’d like to open a place where local artists can display and sell their work. I would also like to conduct art classes.
