Life is heavy and sometimes hurts. Creating of all kinds clears my mind and saves my heart, so I can live to create another day.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I enjoy some many creative mediums, but seem to always go back to putting acrylic paints on a repurposed surface. Using tones that match my energy or mood in the moment, then applying them to the surface with my hands, brushes, or some other unorthodox object feels freeing in a way I have not found elsewhere. One of my favorite things about it is that if something doesn't come out how I had envisioned, I can rotate the canvas or Surface over and over until the piece says it's done.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in this simple things in life, or the complex layers of deep emotional moments. I have a child at home and one who's moved away and often my little one will tell me she wants to create something to explain how she's feeling or show her excitement for a new interest. It never fails after seeing her enthusiasm, I will start a new project that I can't seem to stop working on for several days.
What would you do with $25,000?My life takes the phrase "struggling artist" to a new level. Currently, I barely make ends meet and only through plant sales, odd jobs, and the grace of the universe is my little family able to stay in our apartment and keep the lights on. As a single mother, it is an extra struggle daily to have to get so creative with every aspect of life. If I were to win $25,000 I would get us a running vehicle, take care of past due things, and have an adventure with my babies.
