Lionel Auburn Peyachew

I have always believed that art has a purpose and it is the artist’s mission to be the story teller and educator to mentor about our past.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration from both my paternal and maternal grandparents. My grandfather William Peyachew Cree and my grandmother is from the Nakota tribes.

What would you do with $25,000?

If I was awarded with $25,000, I would continue to practice my passion by building a studio in my back yard to do more work to commemorate the hundreds of children that never made it home from the Indian Residential Schools and asking to help bring awareness to the missing and murdered women and girls in North America.
