Art is survival. It keeps me grounded and allows me to be present in this world with positivity. I would be lost without it.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I’ve become very infatuated with created art that brings me back to my early years, the things that gave me joy as young artist. I spent years creating commission portraits and it wasn’t fulfilling. Now, I want to create things that speak to my soul, to take chances and experiment freely. I love mixed medium illustrations , and large acrylic painting on canvas, ATCs and ACEOs. I favor acrylic, watercolor, colored pencil, alcohol markers, pen and ink, collage, and resin.
Where do you find inspiration?I’m convinced the world around me still contains beauty and I believe that beauty transcends life and death. I have a love of old cemeteries but also fields of sunflowers, the way sunlight hits the iris of the eye, and the human form, but also skulls and bones. I suppose my inspiration is life and experiences on earth, as generic as that may sound. Everywhere I go, I’m imaging how I would draw or paint something I see.
What would you do with $25,000?The first thing I would have to do is take care of my health. My hEDS, Fibromyalgia and scoliosis can restrict my art making process. I would buy custom ring splints and make appointments for a few issues not covered by insurance. Once that is handled I would stock a studio with supplies to insure I could continue to create regardless of my bank balance. And finally I would upgrade equipment necessary for the business side of art such as printers, scanners and cameras etc. and set up a website.
