Over that last several years, I have focused on Japanese-inspired collages with hand-painted Japanese fiber washi and other hand-made and found papers. Recently I have loved incorporating textured papers into my portrait paintings, with slight areas left seemingly unfinished.
Where do you find inspiration?Much of my work throughout 2025 and presently has been born from — or has been a healing tool after — the devastating loss of my home in the Altadena Eaton Canyon Fire. In many ways art has been a direct response to that profound loss and has served as a quiet vehicle for healing and forward movement. I am influenced by Japanese Wabi Sabi ideas of beauty in imperfection. I lean more toward values and less color but also love to add a "pop" of color to my works that are more subdued hues.
What would you do with $25,000?Because I lost my home, art workspace, and everything I have ever created or owned, I would use that to help recreate a functional, organized (well, I am an artist - so SEMI-organized) art studio space where I can paint and create on a grand scale. I have been asked by several people recently to facilitate mini mixed media collage/painting workshops, and I would love to use some of the funds to assist in setting that up so I may provide low to no-cost workshops for my Altadena art community.
