As a cultural artist and storyteller, I create work that honors Micronesia’s rich identities, values, and cultural practices, while also addressing the lasting impacts of colonization, climate change, displacement, and systemic injustice affecting Indigenous communities worldwide. To uplift and honor the stories of one indigenous community is to uplift all.
Where do you find inspiration?My artwork is deeply rooted in my heritage, drawing inspiration from my community and the rich diversity of cultures across the Micronesian region. Spanning over 2,000 islands, Micronesia holds a vast range of languages, traditions, and knowledge systems, many of which remain underrepresented or unheard. Through my work, I aim to honor these stories, preserve cultural memory, and bring visibility to the voices and experiences that shape our identity.
What would you do with $25,000?As a cultural artist, $25k would support new artworks (materials, studio costs), community research with elders and knowledge holders, and youth workshops that teach storytelling through art. It would also fund travel within Micronesia where possible, and documentation (photo/video) to archive and share work. This allows me to create educational, culturally grounded projects that empower Micronesian youth and preserve Indigenous narratives.
