Art has been my way of seeing the world since I was a kid. It is the only thing that has ever helped me make sense of the things around me.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of art to create is ink work. I’m drawn to the level of detail it demands and the kind of focus it pulls out of me. I love taking ordinary subjects and transforming them into something abstract through unusual lines and intricate patterns.
Where do you find inspiration?A lot of my inspiration comes from music; I’ll often play a song on repeat until a single lyric burrows into my mind. From there, I start to build imagery around it, letting that feeling dictate the direction of the piece. Another place I draw inspiration from is the people I see in everyday life. On a train, walking through the city, at a cafe or restaurant, I often find myself creating stories about the strangers around me. I take a lot of inspiration from simply observing people.
What would you do with $25,000?If I had $25,000, I’d use it for stability and creative expansion. I’d set some aside to save, and invest a portion into an ink-based art collection I’ve been slowly developing over the past two years. I’d use the time to fully explore its theme and deepen the detail and storytelling in each piece. I’d also fund printing, framing, and a small exhibition. I would also donate a portion to the Prison Arts Collective in LA to support creativity through art in places where freedom is limited.
