I paint reflections that aren’t just water, but the self—turning stillness & aloneness into emotional landscapes that ask you to look inward
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I create large-scale oil paintings that look like calm waterscapes, but they’re not about the water. They’re about what we carry beneath the surface. Water becomes the inner world, while land and architecture reflect what we show outwardly. I’m drawn to the quiet tension between what’s visible and what’s felt—where everything appears still, but something is shifting underneath.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in the quiet moments people don’t usually talk about—the space between aloneness and loneliness. The situations where everything looks one way on the surface, but feels different underneath. It’s something most people have felt, even if they’ve never put words to it. Light, water, and atmosphere become a way to translate those internal shifts, because they’re constantly changing, just like we are. Most of what inspires me isn’t visible—it’s felt.
What would you do with $25,000?I would invest in my ongoing health, because it directly impacts my ability to show up for the work. That stability would allow me to create new large-scale oil paintings, take greater risks, expand the scale, and share the work more widely. It’s all connected—supporting the artist is what allows the work to exist at its fullest.
