Lourenzo Smith, an American, mixed media artist, bridges the past and present, preserving the timeless materials of film photography
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My soul finds its truest home in a delicate alchemy of vintage mediums: the hushed grain of film photography, Super 8, and stretched canvas. Lately I have begun wandering into new realms of creation, but not ready to share what is still quietly taking shape.
Where do you find inspiration? My deepest inspiration comes from the echoes of the past. I am endlessly drawn to the late 80s and 90s, those luminous years when ideas and design still shimmered with fresh possibility. At the heart of my work lies a profound love for old cars and vintage aesthetics, born from childhood days spent beside my father, a devoted mechanic and gentle hoarder of beautiful, forgotten things.
What would you do with $25,000?If I were to win the twenty-five thousand dollars, I would finally claim a true and proper art studio, securing six months of rent to give my practice the space it deserves. I would donate five to six thousand toward helping young hearts discover the joy of creating, then pour the remainder into paint, rolls of film, and every tool my hands could dream of, all in service of birthing new work
