I was always told I couldn't be a artist, so I became a nurse. Now I need art more than ever, it keeps me in love with an ugly world.

Using Watercolor, my art explores the disconnect between our biological design and the modern environments we inhabit. I create surrealist pieces that place elements of the natural world into jarring, everyday settings - like a woman with a mushroom head sitting in a fluorescent-lit diner. Through these 'odd' juxapositions, I visualize the feeling of living unnaturally and highlight the beauty of the wild trying to reclaim it's space in a ridgid world.
Where do you find inspiration?I find insiration in everything. I keep food wrappers for color combinations...explore my yard, forests, creeks and rivers for natural inspirations. And, largly I lean on my spirituality, I simply feel like we live against how we were created to live. On a planet with everything we need, we somehow decided that humans could do better, and all we did was screw it up.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use this money to help grow my art business, in hopes of eventually being able to leave nursing; giving me much more time to spend with my family.
