I fluctuate between the meditation of my Zen Rock wrapping, and the mixed media shadow box work which combines drawing, found objectst and elements of nature. My curiosity of life's observations are fulfilled in these different disciplines.
Where do you find inspiration?Nature. The foundation of my work revolves around collecting appreciation and motivation from my observation of nature. I see nature as the ultimate artist. From its forms and color palettes to its functions; everything that nature produces is used as a motivational tool to create and expand on my artistic output.
What would you do with $25,000?Although I am Japanese American, I have never traveled to Japan. I feel a lot of my work instinctively has Japanese design sensibilities, and I am tremendously inspired by Japanese crafts and art. I would use some of these funds to travel to Japan, immerse myself in the culture, interact with Japanese artists, and embrace my heritage.
