I love creating visual retellings of my most beloved figures from mythology and folklore. Including different materials and textures to support the emotion interwoven in the theme of the piece. Intentionally pulling from specific color palettes or severely limiting the color palette. Lately I’ve been exploring how I integrate the painting with the frame. Using the boundaries as apart of the piece itself. I love creating pieces that tell a perspective that isn’t typically sceen.
Where do you find inspiration?Growing up I had and still have a deep love for allegory and storytelling. I find myself fixated on alchemical and occult illustrations and how there is a very different story behind told if you know how to read the symbolism. Over the years I’ve realized I follow in these footsteps. Creating pieces that are complete and powerful on their own, but can tell a very different narrative if you pay attention. I love the idea of mystery and hidden knowledge in plain sight.
What would you do with $25,000?$25000 would be life changing. It would allow me to fully create pieces as I envision them without having to sacrifice any aspect. No matter my financial situation, I’ve always been able to find work arounds, but the prize money would truly lift a ton of stress. Allowing access to purchase desired materials without having to wait months saving up allowing me to work and finish pieces so much faster. My ultimate goal is to create 20-30 cohesive themed pieces for a solo exhibition by end of 2027.
