My favorite type of art to create is portraits using oil paints. People are so beautiful in so many ways, and each and every one of us has an incredible story to share. Our individual and incredibly unique stories are what make life exciting, beautiful, happy, and sad—but above all, they are what can lift each other up through hard times and inspire us to be the very best version of ourselves that we are destined to become during our short time on this earth.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in bone structure, wrinkles, skin tone, and the soul of a person that can be seen in their eyes. Capturing these features, among others, and highlighting them to tell a story that would take thousands of words to describe is what inspires me to create.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use a portion of the funds to complete construction on my home, a project I’ve been working on for the past six years since being medically retired from the USMC. Finishing it will allow me to enter the short-term rental market, creating a stable source of income that gives me the freedom to fully pursue my career as an artist and better provide for my family. I would also dedicate a portion of the funds to support Northrise University and their mission to impact the lives of others.
