I like to make a "vernacular" art that's not too formal, intellectual, or rarified. In other words, I make accessible pictures. It is work about people, about humor, anger, our quest for freedom and self determination. About the beauty we relish, familial connections, and friendship. Although my job calls for me to know my craft, I internalize my means to help me execute my visions as unself-consciously and spontaneously as possible, thereby touching the viewer directly and concretely.

I find inspiration in the beauty around me. A quiet landscape or still life, or a boisterous carnival scene; anything that conveys mystery gets my juices flowing. My roots, or the social and political events that touch our lives often motivate my pictures. For that reason, my work centers on the figure. Also, art itself; the art of the past, and the new and interesting modes of expression found on the contemporary scene. Anything useful as a vehicle for my personal vision is grist for the mill.

As a "retired" person who keeps active with his art making, I would welcome an opportunity to invest further in my career. The opportunity to buy necessary supplies to develop existing projects and to launch new ones. To cultivate new venues and make proposals for collaborative exhibitions, and to spread the word about my work in the media. To help cover the cost of shipping my work to distant destinations. To solidify my presence in today's art world.
