I love to create because I can turn quiet experiences and stories, with a bit of magic, into art that resonates and connects, even my own
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of art to create is visual—painting, sculpture, and mixed media—where I integrate organic and modern materials. My practice incorporates material and symbolic elements coming from diverse cultural traditions, including Afro-Caribbean, Mexican, European, and ancestral heritages, taking up and reinterpreting materials and languages linked to these contexts. Likewise, it extends to other forms of expression, such as writing, as part of my creative language.
Where do you find inspiration? As a Puerto Rican, my inspiration is nourished by the convergence of Taíno, African, and Spanish roots. My work also engages closely with Mexican culture, which has deeply influenced my approach to these themes. Through the figure of Santa Muerte as a central axis, I find a way to understand and navigate grief from a more intimate and stigma-free perspective, with the intention of offering a more human, everyday, and symbolic view of death.
What would you do with $25,000?After 2025, after one of the darkest nights of the soul and several years of retreat, I will reclaim not only my artistic and professional career but also my essence, to fulfill pending promises. If I am selected, I would use this support to boost and relaunch my professional career. However, my greatest interest lies in the opportunity to connect with people who feel and value what I convey and who can give visibility to my work.
