My favorite has been making staffs, which has been such an honor, being able to see the healing as they are holding their stories in their hands, one bead at a time, that I got to write out in beading. Nothing compares to the happiness I see in their eyes, which makes my heart full. It has been more than just art, but a calling to my soul I need to do.
Where do you find inspiration?My inspiration came from my grandmother. As a child, I used to watch her bead; that is my only memory of her. I used to watch her bead through it all, but one day she just didn't come home to her beading table. It has always kept us spiritually connected. I hope to make her, my mom, kids, and friends who have been rooting for me proud. I bead for her and for those who are healing and finding their way back. Being able to see the glimpse of healing beginning is something that is soul-touching.
What would you do with $25,000?I would be seen as the artist that I truly am sharing my work as a Kiowa Artist has been the most important thing to me being able to provide and give the life that my family truly deserves. It would go to my children, towards our home and putting my suppression system in my small business I have been working on to continue to provide and grow as a provider, mother & artist.
