I use art to validate the struggles of humankind; while subjectively cathartic as a media spectator, my initial purpose to feel less vulnerable or helpless by using my visual voice to represent my community and the right of other communities anywhere on this planet to be individually respected.
Where do you find inspiration?From my early youth to adulthood living with my family in the Panama Canal Zone, Republic of Panama, I began my art journey painting communities and the working class inhabitants. My next inspiration came from my mentors and teachers who guided me on my path to then ultimately pay it forward by sharing my passion for the arts with my students in the Chicago Public Schools. I live in the working class community of Pilsen, in the city of Chicago where I have been collaborating for decades.
What would you do with $25,000?As you can see, my indoor studio is crowded with winter projects and storage. As it turns Spring here in Chicago, I will be pitching tarps everywhere outdoors to work on larger canvases and sculptural forms. The 25 grand prize will sponsor a weatherproof equipped shelter along with the tools and supplies to work outdoors all year long.
