My studio practice examines and celebrates human expression in the midst of family, community and complex world trauma and resilience.

I am a cancer survivor and an artist activist. My “CALL OUT HATE” series challenges autocracy! I explore a variety of mixed media via conventional painting, drawing and sculpture as well as digital experimentation; creative expression that challenges my own sensibilities as well as those viewers who experience my art from their personal point of view. What can art reveal?
Where do you find inspiration?I believe creative expression can be a healing source for mind, body and spirit. I find inspiration from a global perspective, bedazzled by creative expression from the ancients to contemporary artists worldwide; artist activists, who now face extreme oppression due to conflict, human rights abuse and often persecution.
What would you do with $25,000?This generous award would provide me significant resource to continue my creative practice on a broad scale. I’ll be able to upgrade my studio, catalogue and document my art work of 50 years, create to body of work in collaboration with artists noted above, particularly artists from Cuba, Puerto Rico, artists of color in our own country.
