Figurative Sculpture, especially focusing on the adornment of surface. Eluding to the relationship between self and society. I’m interested in the projection of self and the societal interpretation of that projection. I feel it is a life experience no one is excluded from, the negotiation of how we want to be perceived and how others perceive us.
Where do you find inspiration?I was told stories of my relatives, Mexico City’s 1st all woman acrobat team. How my father grew up as a child farm hand and how hard it is to pick blueberries. Then the random things I remember. Like 2004 presidential candidate Howard Dean screaming yeah, or the noise the droid makes in the beginning of Empire Strikes Back. Thirdly, I have surrounded myself with some of the most talented, empathetic, caring souls I have ever met and my friends will always be a huge inspiration to me.
What would you do with $25,000?First thing would be Fancy Dinner, my treat, with my close friends and people who supported me. Buy thank you notes for my professors and patrons, handwritten well wishes. Studio rent, art supplies, material purchases, fund my next series of sculptures. Lastly, a Buttercream colored Fender P-Bass, as a treat for me.
