I create art because something in me refuses to shut up. There’s a low, insistent hum, part irritant, part compulsion, that drives me.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I build abstract forms that hopefully give the viewer a reminder of a lived experience. I’m chasing that charged space where structure becomes emotion, materials behave like memory, and where a work doesn’t just sit there but radiates its own stubborn presence.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in the built world and the quiet dramas of everyday spaces by looking at the way structures hold memory and the way materials degrade. Abstraction lets me translate those encounters into form. I’m always looking for that moment when some ordinary space such as a corner, a shadow, a surface etc. presents an opportunity for visual depiction and becomes a prompt for a new work.
What would you do with $25,000?I’d invest the $25,000 directly into expanding my studio production by upgrading current analogue and digital equipment, buying a loom for development of textile-based works, and the various materials that would enable me to develop my work in new directions. It would also support documentation, shipping, and exhibition preparation which is essential for a professional art practice.
