My ambition to make art using photography has always been a departure from the typical static photograph to delve into the abstract.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I favor abstraction in Art through photography, both from finding abstract angles and subject matter but mostly in the post processing elements of image making. Creating patterns and iconic imagery to push the boundaries of consciousness whether it be an alien invasion or hot dogs on toast. Using montage to blend and meld these themes to create truly unique artwork that ranges from abstract to surreal. I like using sound and movement, multiple exposure, and composite techniques to create.
Where do you find inspiration?I'm inspired by 20th century painters and early Pictorialist photographers, Steiglitz’s Camera Work era salon photographers featured. Picasso's cubism and surrealists artist. I'm also inspired by modern artists Sigmar Polke, Laszlo Maholy-Nagy, both their paintings and photographs. Man Ray inspired my Instagram name @Fordograph from his Rayographs. These artists also encouraged my experimentation in the darkroom by pushing images further. More are photographer’s Harry Callahan and Robert Frank.
What would you do with $25,000?The first thing that comes to mind is to print a bunch of work and have a ginormous show. I shot medium and large format camera's up to 8x10 inch view cameras for the past 20 plus years. When digital photography came in I started collecting used large format enlargers and commercial processing equipment to make art with; really heavy stuff to move around. I moved to Tucson recently and looking to build a new Laboratory and possibly a communal darkroom to share my skills. A show is my first goal.
