I create art to express my neurodiversity -- I have a fourth cone class for color vision and am studied by scientists. Birds are my focus.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I love to photograph birds -- not only because they are beautiful, but because their colors are beyond pigment -- they have structural colors that emanate from the interaction between crystal-like nanostructures in their feathers and light. In fact, I believe birds should be a new (old) color standard.
Where do you find inspiration?I look to nature for my photos. As a tetrachromat, most of the colors I see that others can't, live there. Manufactured goods, by contrast, are mostly made by trichromats (people with normal vision) for trichromats. Stepping out into nature for me is like Dorothy opening the door to Technicolor Oz.
What would you do with $25,000?I would like to start a program tagging birds in rehab facilities so that in the future, we can know their stories. Imagine tagging an indigo bunting in Manhattan and learning where it winters in Mexico, thousands of miles away? I would create a related app so people could follow the birds' journeys. Thank you for the opportunity to apply.
