Connect What is your favorite type of art to create?

Although my current work may be seen as realistic, I enjoy painting in a manner that moves toward expressionism, impressionism, and semi-abstraction. I use the sea as my guide, because it is never still or stagnant. I choose to learn from it, and enjoy chasing it's limitless energy with brushstrokes in oil. I try to communicate an emotional experience that creates a visceral reaction in the viewer.

Where do you find inspiration?

The power and beauty of nature, and particularly the Northern California ocean inspire me. The endless movement, shifting moods, and dynamic energies of the Pacific, along with the light and fog surrounding it serve as a constant muse and salve for my heart. The gloom of the fog often hugs the coast, while light in various forms falls through it in gorgeous harmony. The combination of gloominess and sunshine is healing as well as symbolic. The trees of the coast are also magnificent.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would shift my time from my days in my medical career towards more time in the studio. I would make more paintings, expand my style, and improve my skill. I would learn from various teachers, and hone my style towards more expression. I would experiment and play. I would focus on building a website, and create a web-based infrastructure for my art sales.
