My favorite type of art to create is sculpure in stonewear clay. I love the handmade feel of clay and how it feels beneath my hands. When I sculpt with clay, I am able to create pieces with a varity of textures, and colors. Sculpting gives me visual freedom without being confined to a canvas or paper. I am able to create whatever comes to my mind with clay and capture many different experiences and emotions.
Where do you find inspiration?I find insparation in the Texas landscape. As a native born Texan living in the Hillcountry, I have the privillage to see many different forms of wildlife. I love to capture the wild essence of Texas in my work while also promoting the beauty of Texas culture. In my work I include many different references to Texas and Souhwest culture including plants, animals, and foods.
What would you do with $25,000?If I had the $25,000 I would work to teach more people in the Texas area about the joys of art and clay. I would work to help keep the pottery studio where I started and continue to create my art afloat and enable it to act as an artistic retreat. I would be able to teach more people about pottery, spreading the joy of art to the public. I love to teach pottery classes and the $25,000 would allow me to continue to preserve the art of pottery for future generations, as it is a dying artform.
