Creating art is my therapy. It shuts off the parts of my brain that constantly worry and overthink. I focus on the process.

I really enjoy drawing things in life that I find beautiful. I prefer colored pencils over anything because I can create light and shadow by blending a variety of colors. I fell in love with symmetry in nature, and the play of light and shadows in my high school photography class. That’s what catches my eye and inspires me to recreate those beautiful things, even if it is skewed from realism. It’s what I see through my personal lens and it feels good to let it flow from hand to paper.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in the natural world. Creating art is like stopping to smell the roses. Look closer at the color, variety and detail of the world all around you. It is amazing and inspiring.
What would you do with $25,000?I would start with a small contribution towards my investment in the teacher retirement system. It would be a great relief to pay off my car and not have that interest building, or monthly payments. These are real life things that need attention in my life. I would take care of business.
